The Louvre Heist: A Fortune in Stolen Jewels – Level 2

Jewels stolen from the Louvre Museum on Sunday have an estimated value of 88 million euros, which is equivalent to 550 million Brazilian reais. The information was confirmed by prosecutor Lohr Bequiot. The museum’s curator noted that while the monetary loss is impressive, it does not compare to the historical damage.

The lightning-fast heist lasted only eight minutes and has gained worldwide attention. Sixty investigators are now searching for the culprits, with initial investigations pointing towards organized crime. The robbery occurred around 9:30 AM on Sunday when the thieves parked a crane under a museum balcony. Two individuals ascended and used a chainsaw to enter the Apollo Gallery through a window.

This famous gallery, commissioned by King Louis XIV, houses the crown jewels collection. With their faces covered, the thieves stole nine 19th-century pieces, most notably the crown of Empress Eugénie, the wife of Napoleon III. When asked about a possible inside job, the prosecutor stated she could not confirm or deny it at this time.
