French authorities are conducting a manhunt for four suspects following a brazen daytime heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The thieves successfully infiltrated the museum and stole eight items of jewellery, including pieces from the French crown jewels, which the culture ministry has described as priceless. The operation was executed with precision and speed. Shortly after the museum opened, the perpetrators used a crane to access an upper-floor window of the Apollo Gallery. They smashed through the window and two display cases, seizing the jewels and fleeing on motorbikes within an astonishing four-minute timeframe. A former head of the FBI’s art crime team commented on the incident, stating that the thieves were undoubtedly professionals who had meticulously planned the heist. He explained that while museums like the Louvre have strong security, no institution is impervious to dedicated criminals. He also noted the difficulty in monetizing such well-known pieces, as they are too famous to be sold on the black market.
