Toyota do Brasil is scheduled to recommence its vehicle manufacturing operations this November following an unforeseen production halt. All three of the automaker’s facilities in the state of São Paulo ceased operations in September. This disruption was caused by a powerful storm, featuring winds up to 90 km/h, which inflicted significant damage on the company’s plant in Porto Feliz. As an interim measure, the resumption of activities will be facilitated by using engines and components imported from Toyota’s other international units. However, the company has clarified that a full return to normalcy, specifically the production of vehicles with conventional engines, is not expected until January of the coming year. At that point, manufacturing will cater to both the domestic Brazilian market and exportation demands. This incident highlights the vulnerability of modern supply chains to severe weather events and the complex logistics involved in orchestrating a phased recovery for a multinational corporation.
