The End of Social Sharing? How Social Media is Changing – Level 1

Social media is different now. A few years ago, you saw many posts from your friends. They shared photos of their breakfast or their holidays. Now, when you look at your feed, you see many different things. You see ads for houses you can’t buy. You see content from professional influencers. You also see news headlines and AI-generated images. It feels chaotic.

Because of this, normal people don’t post about their lives anymore. It doesn’t feel like a good space to share personal things. Social media is becoming less social. It is now more like television, where you just watch content. People still want to talk to their friends online. But now, they use private messages or group chats. They are moving away from public posts. This might be a big change for the future of these apps. Maybe we are tired of sharing everything in public and want more privacy.

New Words:

1. Ads: Short for advertisements. Pictures or videos that try to make you buy something. Example: I see many ads for new phones on social media.
2. Influencer: A person who is famous on social media and can make people buy things. Example: The influencer shared a video about her new favorite makeup.
3. Private: Not public. Meant for only one person or a small group to see. Example: I sent my friend a private message instead of posting on her wall.
