President Lula Meets Pope Leo XIV in Rome – Level 2

President Lula arrived in Rome, Italy, this Sunday to attend the opening of the World Food Forum, an event organized by the United Nations. As part of his agenda, Lula scheduled a meeting with the new Pope, Leo XIV.

The meeting took place on Monday morning around 8 AM Rome time. It was a brief and private gathering. Images show First Lady Janja da Silva and President Lula with the Pope. The press was not allowed to attend; only the leaders from the Vatican and Brazil, along with a few advisors, were present.

It is widely believed that President Lula extended an invitation to Pope Leo XIV to attend the upcoming COP30 climate conference. This same invitation was previously made last week by Minister Marina Silva during her visit to the Vatican. The first photos of the meeting have been released.

We expect to receive more detailed information about this visit later today from our correspondent, Cíntia Rodrigues. This visit highlights Brazil’s efforts to engage with global leaders on critical issues such as food security and climate change. The world now awaits the Pope’s decision on attending the conference in Brazil.
