Powerful Earthquake Strikes the Philippines – Level 1

A very strong earthquake happened in the sea near the Philippines. Its magnitude was 7.4, which is very powerful. The earthquake’s center was near the island of Mindanao. Because the quake was under the ocean, officials were worried about a tsunami, which is a giant sea wave. They issued a tsunami warning for people living on the coast in the Philippines and Indonesia. Many people were scared and moved to higher ground to be safe. Some even saw the sea level drop, a sign a tsunami could be coming. The President of the Philippines sent emergency teams to help. There are reports of some damage to buildings, and some areas have lost electricity. Fortunately, the tsunami warning has now been lifted. This means the danger of a big wave has passed. It is still early, but it appears that no one was seriously hurt. Authorities are now checking the infrastructure to see how bad the damage is. This is the second big earthquake in the area in a short time, so officials are being very careful.
