A massive manhunt is underway for jewel thieves who committed a daring daylight heist at the Louvre museum. Four men, disguised as construction workers, used a mobile freight elevator to reach a second-floor window. They broke through it using a power tool. Inside, they allegedly threatened security guards and ransacked the Apollo Gallery, where France’s crown jewels were displayed. The suspects stole eight valuable items, including sets of sapphire and emerald necklaces, two diadems, and elaborate diamond brooches. The entire raid lasted only seven minutes before the thieves escaped on scooters. In their hurry, they seemed to have dropped the 200-year-old crown of Empress Eugenie. It was found damaged but was recovered at the scene. Experts are concerned that the thieves will melt down the gold and silver and sell the jewels separately, which would destroy their historical value. Police are now investigating the evidence the thieves left behind, including a blowtorch and gloves, hoping to find clues.
