The United Nations (UN) held an important meeting to discuss a problem between the United States and Venezuela. Venezuela had requested the meeting because it was worried about the recent actions of the US. The US government sent military forces, including soldiers, ships, and fighter planes, to the sea near Venezuela. The US stated that its goal was to stop the illegal drug trade in that area. The situation became much worse when the US attacked a Venezuelan boat. The US claimed the boat was carrying drugs, and sadly, eleven people died during this attack. In response, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, also prepared his country’s troops and started training regular citizens to form militias. At the UN meeting, a UN official asked both countries to engage in peaceful talks. He urged them to find a solution to their problems through dialogue instead of conflict, hoping to prevent the situation from getting worse.
